The month of April is the observance of the signing of the of the Civil Rights
act of 1968. Title VIII of the act is known as the Fair Housing Act. Equal
opportunity in housing still is not a reality for all people who choose to make
this nation their home. The elimination of housing discrimination is one of the
most challenging problems facing society. As REALTORS®, we are committed
to a housing market free of discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex,
handicap, familial status or national origin.
In 1975, the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® entered into an
Affi rmative Marketing Agreement to aid the U.S. Department of Housing and
Urban Development which is responsible for implementing the federal Fair
Housing Act. This agreement was renegotiated several times until the Fair
Housing Partnership Agreement replaced it in 1996.
The Lee County Association of REALTORS®, the cities of Auburn and Opelika
and the Probate Judge of Lee County Proclaim the Month of April as Fair
